Unbroken: Indigenous Peoples Today
Beto, Mexica Native
Beto, a Mexica Native, is another volunteer who makes the long, 12-hour round-trip drive from Los Angeles to D-Q University each month. When he is back home in Los Angeles he focuses on bringing change to gang violence.
"Right now I'm working on bringing back the Nine Deuce Truce. It was made in 1992 - it's the same one that Tupac helped make - but it was broken recently. We're trying to bring it back and stop battles between the Bloods, Crips and Esés. We're also trying to bring back the G-Code to prevent selling drugs to kids, stop selling near schools, and stop selling to pregnant women. Drive-bys can't happen either. I'm working at this with a lot of O.G. elders from the Black Panthers. This is their last goal to fix the world. We're uniting brown, Indigenous, and black gangs on a common goal. Especially with the Trump administration you don't want that heat and oppression in your neighborhood. You don't want your family deported."
